Paired with vibration and increased use of the air conditioner, summertime's extreme heat can cause batteries to break down.Many shops offer battery tests, so if it's been a while since you've checked the charge, now is a great time to find out whether your battery can last through the season.Inspect belts and hosesThese rubber components break down over time, especially in hot environments. To avoid losing your coolant or the engine powering the air conditioner unit, make sure that the belts and hoses holding everything together are in good condition.Ask your mechanic to: check hoses for leaks, soft spots, and loose connections; examine belts for separating layers; and adjust or replace any that are showing wear.Check tires for overinflationThe air pressure inside your tires will fluctuate with the temperature of the air outside. On cold days, you might notice your tires sagging a bit.When it gets hot, though, you should watch out for bulges or other signs that the tire is overinflated.This problem can be largely avoided by keeping tires at the appropriate air pressure.
